Kenny and Barbra's Relaxed Stellenbosch Wedding
Guys this wedding! I can't wait for you to see it! You will love the relaxed vibe, the beautiful lace and tulle mermaid wedding dress and the romance of the couples shoot. Here is the inside scoop from Helena of Yeah Yeah Photography on this stunning wedding:
Kenny & Barbra's love story started out in the best way possible - as two best friends who just loved spending time in each other's company. Despite their very different career paths, their love grew and after dating for 7 years Kenny popped the question. The engagement ring, which was designed by Kenny and kept a big secret for over a year, traveled all the way to Addo National Park with the spare tyre before being presented to the soon-to-be Mrs Toplis.
The couple tied the knot at the beautifully rustic venue 401 Rozendal in Stellenbosch one warm summers afternoon. It was a perfect day - as it's bound to be when you're surrounded by so many of your loved ones at the same time. The afternoon was spent lounging around outside on the lawns, enjoying the live music, games and canapés while the sun set.
After a delicious dinner and beautiful speeches, Barbra & Kenny were each given a Barbie & Ken (apparently not a new joke amongst family & friends!) and played their own variation of the classic 'shoe game'. Wedding reception games are always such a win! The jokes didn't end there - evidently it took Kenny a few tries to find the garter! You'll see what I mean... The rest of the night was spent dancing and enjoying a delicious dessert table.
This is what it looks like when you marry your best friend.
How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend while we were both still undergrads at Stellenbosch University. We did not have the typical romantic beginning as most would expect. We really started off as best friends that just genuinely loved spending time in each other’s company. Some of our first memories together are actually from nights out in Stellenbosch, which is actually quite normal for two undergrad Stellenbosch University students.
How did Kenny propose?
We went on our first road trip together over the Dec/Jan holiday period of 2017/2018. We ended off our trip in Addo National Park where we spent the first night in a chalet with a private patio overlooking the bush. Kenny organized a surprise dinner on the patio that night and proposed while we were taking in the beauty of a typical African sunset. We spent the rest of the evening outside enjoying the stillness of the bush over a good bottle of red wine.
What was your most memorable part of the wedding?
There wasn’t really a specific part of our wedding that I can pinpoint as being the most memorable. As cliché as it might sound, we really had the most perfect day and just seeing the constant happiness and look of enjoyment on the faces of all our friends and family is something that we will never forget.
The Barbie and Ken doll game
Kenny’s family have always called him “Ken” for short and they of course didn’t hesitate at the opportunity to start calling me “Barbie”. They have always loved playing games as a family, which is why they decided it would be a good idea to include the traditional shoe game with a twist by using Barbie and Ken dolls instead of shoes. The game was a complete surprise to the both of us until my mom-in-law, Jean, initiated it after her speech. It was a great idea and the guests thoroughly enjoyed it.
