Grethe Rosseaux's Profile
Tell us a little bit about your background:
Born and bred in the Cape Winelands and never really left - a lover of mountains, fynbos and good wine by nature, I moved from Wellington to Stellenbosch to Somerset West where I still reside today and tremendously enjoy the view.
I am an internationally published fashion photographer - my work having appeared in publications such as British Vogue, ELLE, Glamour, Cosmopolitan and Top Billing.
Despite my pink hair I'm not a peonies-pastels-and-lace kind of girl; give me jewel-tones, moody palettes, crazy hair colours, tattoos and rich, cultural influences instead. I'm a lover of history, languages, culture, colour, light, atmosphere, warmth and drama which I try to inject into my work.
Meticulous, polished and cinematic with a dramatic, high-contrast fashion edge.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A combination of shooting/editing, drinking tea, looking at mountains, cuddling cats and not sleeping.
How did you get into wedding photography?
I didn't - wedding photography got into me!
I fell into some wedding work at the beginning of my career to build experience and I learned valuable lessons both in business and photographic skill that greatly helped me in my fashion career.
I've since returned to wedding photography because I enjoy the challenge and aesthetics.
How has your work evolved since you began:
The more I shoot, the more experimental and definitively "Grethe" my work had become. I am constantly investigating creative ways to light and process my images.
What is your favourite part of your job?
Travel - I love it when photography takes me to new places, cultures and people!
People watching - wedding photography is the most advanced and sophisticated form of people-watching and it's utterly fascinating to see the art that can be created in the moment!
